Giving Thanks

Now that Halloween is behind us, we can start thinking about the upcoming holidays without feeling guilty. I do think it is annoying that retail stores start the holiday shopping season before the kids have finished their sugar high from all of their Halloween candy.

November is the traditional month to give thanks and I wanted to thank all of our kind guests who have purchased our moose and bears to help cure cancer. We get different shipments of bears in on a regular basis and they are all adorable and make great gifts.

Our associates will be getting together in the next couple of weeks to make balsam wreaths for the holiday season. All of the proceeds will go the Lafayette Family Cancer Center. I know I have mentioned this before but our associates are working very hard to raise funds and with your help, I know we will make our goal.

This is the time for family traditions and creating lasting memories with our children.  We are so fortunate to live in the Mt. Washington Valley and to experience the holidays here.  So much is happening in the next few weeks and we want to share it with you and your family!  The Polar Express begins rides Thanksgiving weekend and we do have some packages left.  This popular family event does sell out every year so don’t miss it.  Thanksgiving weekend is also the kick off of Traditionally Yours in Jackson.  So many fun things going on in the village.  Jingle Bell Chocolate tour is something that should not be missed…take a sleigh ride from inn to inn and get chocolate treats.  You can view the different events at the jacksonnh.com website and print out a brochure.

We have our tree lighting event the first Saturday in December.  Santa rides up Nordic Lane as the trees are lit up.  We will have hot cocoa and cookies for all the anxious children waiting to see Santa.  Before Santa arrives two of his elves will be helping Children make graham cracker houses at the Pavilion.  It was my first experience last year with the tree lighting and it was truly magical.  We are all looking forward to it again this year.

Don’t forget that Santa’s Village is also open select weekends before Christmas.

Let it snow!

The Flavors of Fall

Over Columbus Day weekend we had an apple pie baking contest and the proceeds went directly into our donation fund for the Lafayette Family Cancer Center. We raised $56 and that was mostly by selling the slices of pie! We have started selling quite a few of our critters and seems that the moose are the biggest sellers. They are quite adorable with their little fleece Nordic Village scarves.

All of the associates here at Nordic Village are very excited about raising funds to help find a cure for this horrible disease and together I know we can make a difference. Starting Thanksgiving weekend we will be selling Christmas wreaths made by our associates.

Post Columbus Day can be one of the best times to visit the Mt. Washington Valley as the foliage is still beautiful and the weather is perfect for hiking or strolling around the outlet shops.  It is my favorite time of year because the smell of wood stoves burning always reminds me that the holidays will soon be here.  We have several great packages for our guests to take advantage of during this shoulder season and at great values!  Early Christmas shopping is a must at Settlers Green and we have discount coupons available with our Bargain Hunters package.

The Polar Express lottery will be held on October 22.  Anyone who does not receive tickets from the lottery, call us quickly as we do have a few packages left.  If you have not experienced this magical journey with your kids, treat them this year; they will have such wonderful memories!  It truly will create a long lasting memory and quite possibly become a tradition for years to come.  After all, the holidays are all about family, traditions and memories…create some this year on the Polar Express.

Fall at Nordic Village

Summer might be over but did you know Story Land and all of the White Mountain Attractions are open weekends through Columbus Day!

There is so much happening this Fall and we are excited about our 1st Annual Apple Pie baking contest that will be held on Saturday, October 10. All of our guests are invited to enter their favorite apple pie. Entrance fee is $10 with proceeds going to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center. Anyone wishing to sign up, please call us for details. Our associates will be entering some pies and the competition has already begun!

Fall is such a wonderful time of year to visit the Mount Washington Valley! The days are still warm with cooler evenings, great for sleeping! We have great packages to help you celebrate.

Sherman Farm Corn Maze is a challenging yet leisurely stroll while enjoying the fresh air. While visiting the farm, pick out a pumpkin in their huge pumpkin patch!

Cranmore is home of the Ghoullog again this October. This will definitely be a big hit for the adults in your group…it promises to be much more frightening this year. This is a perfect package for those couples who love  haunted houses and all that goes along with Halloween! Ghoullog will be open weekends in October. It is pretty amazing to be up on a chair lift in the dark and look up at the stars and see the village of North Conway down below.

Don’t forget about the pumpkin people who will be taking over Jackson, Glen and Bartlett.   We are still trying to figure out who our pumpkin people will be this year.

Hope to see you this fall!

Adorable Teddy Bears and Moose are available for $20 each and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Maine.

The Lafayette Hotel Group has decided to take on the challenge to raise 2 million dollars to hire researchers, purchase equipment and open the Lafayette Family Cancer Center for the research and treatment of cancer. We do this in honor of those who have passed away and for those who continue their fight with this dreadful disease. We can reach this goal with your help!

Now that summer is in full swing…almost exactly one month into it, we are hoping for sunnier skies.  Story Land has been busy with all of those happy children, even during those rainy days in June.  We have been lucky so far this July and most days have been sunny.  It’s perfect weather out there, cooler temps and no need for air conditioning yet.  The bears have been out and about and I even saw a cub running across Nordic Lane yesterday.

We have added a few new things this summer for our guests to enjoy.  We have goldfish in the pond and they are getting bigger by the day.  Ken, our maintenance guy, thinks they are his fish since he put them in the pond.  He is always telling me when he has had a fish sighting.  They stay in a school and usually can be spotted if you are standing on the bridge.

We also offer pony rides.  The ponies love the kids and it’s been a lot of fun watching all of those smiles when the kids are going on their first pony ride.  The sheep love the ponies too!

We have a big screen television in the pavilion and we have movie nights during the week.  We will also be playing the Red Sox games for all of our fans.

My favorite change this summer is that we have sugar cookies in the lobby now instead of ginger snaps.  After hearing several guests inquire if they were dog biscuits, I took it upon myself to switch the cookies!

So plan your vacation soon to Story Land or come up shopping at Settlers Green OVP, tons of new stores!  You deserve a get away, it’s been a tough spring and early summer.  So come and get a sugar cookie!
